Operation Systems Programmer Linux

Must be experienced in Linux Operating System installation
and support
Summary: Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, developing,
installing, and modifying computer operating systems.
Analyzes and resolves problems associated with operating
systems. Detects, diagnoses, and reports related problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Researches, evaluates, installs, maintains and supports
operating system, telecommunications, and database and/or
specialized system software.
Implements changes to operating systems and
telecommunications software.
Prepares written documentation to accompany all systems,
programs and program changes.
Documents network configuration, standards, and procedures.
Evaluates hardware requirements and tunes hardware
configuration.
Provides technical support services to data center.
Participates in self-development activities and attends
training courses.
Provides system software installation problem
identification, disaster recovery and software technical
support.
Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an

Complexity of Work: Moderately routine; general policies

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or
university in related fields.
Experience: 5-7 years in systems programming or systems
engineering; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of specific architecture of hardware
platforms supported (e.g., CKD vs. FBA, multiple engines
technology, channel configurations, environmental concerns)
Thorough knowledge of specific language compilers (e.g.,
COBOL, C, Assembler), architecture, and low-level code
generation.
Thorough knowledge of general installation methods and
procedures
Thorough knowledge of the capacities and performance
capabilities of system components
Thorough knowledge of sources of needed information for
research
Thorough knowledge of communication protocols (e.g., LU2,
LU6.2, BSC, ASYNC, OSI)
Thorough knowledge of company data center management
products (e.g., PCS, PPS, ET, Endeavor)
Thorough knowledge of industry-standard architecture (e.g.,
system view, SAA, SNA, OSI, X.25)
Thorough knowledge of network protocols, connectivity and
communications (e.g., TCP/IP, SNA, etc.)
Thorough knowledge of practices, guidelines and procedures
for planning, implementing and monitoring local software
infrastructure
Thorough knowledge of procedures and technologies for
backup, archival and retrieval of network and enterprise
data
Considerable knowledge of emerging technology issues and
trends
Skill in interpersonal skills/team building
Skill to effectively communicate orally and in writing
Skill in coding and problem solving
Skill in system design/project analysis
Skill in research and documentation
Skill in testing/production turnover
Skill in consulting/client support
Skill in training and programming/project estimates
