Sr VB.Net / VB6 Developer

Purpose:
To design, develop and provide technical oversight for
projects that provide an automated business solution for
the client and lead project assignments as part of the
development team.
Accountabilities:
Identify, recommend, and lead the implementation of process
improvements
Ensure quality, consistency and timeliness of own and
others' work
Mentor to increase proficiency, knowledge and skills
Share knowledge as subject matter expert; participate in
development and client activities as a subject matter
expert across company.
Demonstrate proficiencies as a technical expert, product
expert and/or manager of a team/project.
Follow company processes and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Typically demonstrates the knowledge and expertise of a
Developer III.
Leads and conducts client interactions. Able to interface
independently and confidently with clients as needed for
project assignments.
Participates in, and likely leads, analyzing and estimating
project feasibility, cost, time, and compatibility with
other client systems and/or utilities.
Participates in, and likely leads, planning sessions with
clients, Business Analysts and team members to analyze
business requirements and assess feasibility of solutions.
Writes and maintains complex/advanced functional and
technical specifications.
Likely designs and creates frameworks utilized by other
Developers.
Designs and converts complex client specifications into
screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, printer
outputs, and interfaces with other client software or
third party systems.
Converts complex technical specifications into components,
interfaces, services, etc., using applicable development
technologies.
May maintain complex fixes for systems and interfaces.
Analyzes complex discrepancies and coordinates the
implementation of fixes.
Assists the Quality Control team in creating test plans
and/or cases.
Is recognized by others as subject matter expert in LOB(s),
technology and/or subsystem(s) and is the "go to" contact
for the organization on the SME area(s).
Contributes to building the Development training
curriculum; may facilitate training sessions.
Participates in the interveiw and selection process for
potential new hires/consultants.
May provide input on performance managemement and/or
performance evaluations of Developers at the I, II and III
levels, and/or other managerial topics.
Prepares work effort estimations for projects.
Conducts and approves code review(s).
Mentors Developers at the I, II and III levels, as well as
proactively shares job knowledge with those from other
areas to futher their growth and understanding of the
Development function and technologies used at company.
Demonstrates increased level of insurance industry
knowledge and continues to seek educational opportunites
to grow industry expertise.
May travel up to 20%.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience
in lieu of degree
Extensive Development experience required in VB6, .Net
technologies.
Insurance industry experience preferred
Experience mentoring others in a Development environment
Subject matter expert knowledge
Experienced in full lifecycle of software development;
requirements analysis, design, development, testing and
implementation
Experience in creating software architecture documents or
other design artifacts
Experience with SQL-Server 2000/05 and ability to
comprehend moderate level TSQL programming
Proven track record in working with project and design
methodologies
Demonstrated critical thinking skills and creativity to
solve complex problems
Highly effective at building relationships and demonstrates
strong interpersonal skills
Experience as a technical lead for a team and/or project
Organizational Structure and Interface:
Reports to Application Development Manager or Project
Manager
Coordinates and interfaces with Business Analysts, Quality
Control Analysts, other Management, and other Development
staff
Interfaces with Clients
